Last-Mile & Hybrid Connectivity

What is Last-Mile & Hybrid Connectivity?

What is Last-Mile & Hybrid Connectivity?

Last-mile connectivity refers to the final leg of network infrastructure connecting your office or site to the broader internet or your data centre. Fieldbase solves last-mile challenges by offering multiple technologies:

  • Fiber optic cables (where available from our data centre partners)

  • Starlink satellite (rapid deployment, no infrastructure dependencies)

  • Hybrid solutions (fiber + LTE + satellite for redundancy and failover)

Connectivity Options

Fiber Optic Last-Mile

For sites within reach of our data centre partners (MTN, MDXi, Rack Centre, Galaxy Backbone), we can deploy dedicated fiber connections from the data centre to your office. Fiber provides the highest bandwidth and lowest latency but requires physical infrastructure installation.

Best for

  • Urban or semi-urban locations with existing fiber infrastructure

  • High-bandwidth requirements (1 Gbps+)

  • Applications requiring ultra-low latency (sub-5ms)

Satellite Last-Mile (Starlink)

For remote locations or sites where fiber deployment is cost-prohibitive or time-consuming, Starlink provides rapid-deployment satellite connectivity. Ideal for remote branches, temporary sites, or areas without terrestrial infrastructure.

Best for

  • Remote or rural locations with no fiber access

  • Rapid deployment requirements (days, not months)

  • Sites with challenging terrain or regulatory barriers to fiber installation

Hybrid Connectivity (Fiber + Satellite)

For mission-critical operations that cannot tolerate single points of failure, hybrid connectivity combines fiber and satellite.

Best for

  • Banking, financial services, or payment processing (zero downtime tolerance)

  • Data centres requiring geographic diversity in connectivity

  • Critical infrastructure with business continuity requirements

How Hybrid Connectivity Works

Hybrid solutions use intelligent failover technology:

01

Primary Path

Fiber provides high-bandwidth, low-latency connectivity for normal operations

02

Backup Path

Starlink satellite runs in standby mode, continuously monitored

03

Automatic Failover

If fiber fails (cut cable, equipment failure, provider outage), traffic automatically switches to satellite within seconds

04

Failback

When fiber is restored, traffic returns to the primary path automatically

Your network experiences seamless connectivity with no manual intervention required.

How organizations use it

Bank Branch Networks

Deploy fiber to urban branches and satellite to rural branches creating a unified network with consistent performance regardless of location.

Data Centre Redundancy

Use fiber as primary connectivity and satellite as geographic diversity backup. If your fiber provider's network fails, satellite ensures your data centre remains online.

Temporary to Permanent Deployments

Start with rapid satellite deployment to get operations running immediately, then add fiber later for long-term performance optimization.

Deployment process

A streamlined deployment process designed to deliver secure enterprise connectivity with minimal disruption.
